participation programme

In conjunction with each up and coming production, we run a Participation Programme aimed at young people aged 16 to 18 years old.

The programme focuses on creating opportunities for individuals of underrepresented and Global Majority backgrounds to develop their skills in all areas of theatre making, through workshops, mentorship opportunities and work experiences led by our team.

2024

Our 2024 Participation Programme was held at St Xavier Sixth Form College in Clapham, London. This was made possible through the support of Arts Council England and the invaluable contributions of our mentors and partners, including Theatro Technis, Omnibus Theatre, and Streatham Space Project.

aims of the programme

  • To enable participants and their communities to express themselves creatively.

  • To make the performing arts more accessible to young and underprivileged individuals, by providing them with the time, space and resources to develop new skills.

  • To diversify the creative industry in the UK, by contributing to the artistic training and development of participants.

How It Works

The 8-week programme takes place in a college/ sixth form in London, in the form of an extracurricular activity and to complement the students’ academic curriculum.

It consist of weekly creative workshops, as well as six work experience opportunities to be offered to selected individuals in the fields of producing, directing, stage managing, production managing, lighting/sound design and set design.

The Participation Programme is also a progression of the ‘Creative Development Programme’ that we designed in 2021, as part of The Barrio Project. This pilot programme was aimed at creating space for diaspora communities in London to share their stories, collaborate in workshops, develop professional creative skills in many areas of theatre making, before a public performance.
